Rotating Your Dog's Food

Everyone tends to get a little worried about rotation and the risk of stomach upset by changing foods. If we get your dog’s gut healthy, it can handle lots of variety. It’s primarily kibble transitions that lead to digestive upset.

Most people feed the same food day in and day out. Even our home cooks can get in a rut.

This dietary rut could be setting your dog up to develop food sensitivity to specific ingredients. That’s right, intolerances can be attributed to continuous exposure to the same protein source and protein inclusive ingredients. Over time, the pet’s body can have a negative immune reaction to a single protein. The dog may develop a negative immune response to the continued use of a single protein without variance. This intolerance could present as — food allergies, food sensitivities, environmental allergies with paw licking, ear infections, recurring anal gland problems. This could be one reason why your dog seems to stop eating his food after a period of time.

It’s also for these reasons that I don’t recommend combination & blended protein foods, butcher blend raws, etc.

Having the ability to rotate your primary single-ingredient protein sources may reduce the occurrence of food intolerance in your dog.

Some easy ways to begin adding in variety:

  • Rotate the protein sources in your raw diet or homemade meals. You have many to choose from. Rotate weekly, or even within the week. Keep your dog happy with the variety & his gut healthy.

  • Add a Whole Egg

  • Add A Can of sardines

  • Raw Meaty Bone Options from different animal sources.
