Bone Broth Benefits For Dogs
Giving Bone Broth To Dogs
Bone broth offers several health benefits for dogs. It is rich in essential nutrients and minerals that promote overall health and well-being. The broth contains collagen, which supports joint health, aids in cartilage repair, and reduces inflammation, making it particularly beneficial for senior dogs or those with joint issues. Additionally, bone broth is packed with amino acids that aid in muscle repair and contribute to a healthy coat and skin. The gelatin present in bone broth also helps improve digestion by soothing and healing the gastrointestinal tract, making it an ideal option for dogs with sensitive stomachs or those recovering from digestive upset, diarrhea, illness, or surgery. It’s also an added boost of nutrition to our senior dogs without having to add a lot more volume or supplements to the bowl. Broth can entice finicky eaters to consume their meals, ensuring they receive the necessary nutrients to thrive or recover.

Easy Bone Broth Recipe for Dogs
Ingredients:
Marrow Bones: Several large marrow bones, preferably with joint ends for extra cartilage. Visit your local butcher for the best selection.
Vegetables (approx. 1 cup each):
Carrots: Great for eye health and packed with beta-carotene and liver-supporting nutrients.
Celery: Helps with drainage and adds a boost of Vitamin C.
Kale: Rich in B vitamins, A, C, K, and iron.
Shiitake Mushrooms: Known for their cancer-fighting properties.
Parsley: Acts as a blood tonic and provides Vitamin C.
Fresh Ground Ginger: Soothes the digestive tract.
Vinegar Acid:
Raw Apple Cider Vinegar: About 2 tablespoons. This helps extract essential vitamins and minerals from the bones.
Instructions:
Preparation:
Rinse the marrow bones under cold water to remove any residual debris.
Chop the vegetables into medium-sized chunks.
Cooking:
Place the marrow bones in a slow cooker or crockpot.
Add the chopped vegetables and fresh ground ginger.
Pour in the raw apple cider vinegar.
Cover the ingredients with water, ensuring the water level is about 2 inches above the bones and vegetables.
Slow Cook:
Set your slow cooker on low heat and cook for approximately 24 hours. This slow simmering process allows the bones to release their vital nutrients into the broth.
Finishing Up:
After 24 hours, carefully strain the broth to remove the bones and vegetable solids, leaving only the nutrient-rich liquid.
Let the broth cool completely before serving it to your dog.
Serving Suggestions:
Serve the bone broth as a standalone treat or mix it with your dog's regular food to enhance flavor and nutrition.
Store any unused broth in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze it in portions for later use.
Never serve cooked bone to dogs.

Bone Broth is NOT the same as stock or the liquid you’d have from boiling meat. While those are great for flavor — it does not have the same nutrient profile. Bone broth will add many healthy nutrients, boost your dog’s immunity, keep them hydrated, and help keep inflammation down.
If you are purchasing bone broth from a retailer, please ensure it contains no onions or other ingredients that may be unsafe for dogs to consume. Always read the labels.
