What Is Lyssin
Lyssinum, also known as Lyssin or Hydrophobinum, is one of those remedies that is made from the disease itself. That is to say, Lyssin is a homeopathic remedy made from the saliva of a rabid dog. In homeopathy, it is used to treat symptoms related to rabies or other conditions with similar symptoms, such as fear of water, restlessness, anxiety, and spasms.
According to the principles of homeopathy, the substance that causes symptoms in a healthy dog can be used in a highly diluted form to treat those same symptoms in a sick person. The preparation of Lyssin involves diluting the saliva of a rabid dog in water, and then succussing (shaking) the mixture vigorously to increase its potency. The resulting solution is then further diluted and succussed many times to create a highly diluted and potentized remedy. Generally speaking, homeopathic products are diluted to such an extent that they no longer contain detectable levels of the initial substance. It will have been diluted hundreds to thousands of times.
No, it’s not going to give your dog Rabies. But if your dog has any symptoms of vaccine injury or vaccinosis following receipt of the vaccine — whether immediately or months after, it may help relieve those symptoms and return your dog’s behavior and system back to balance.
Lyssin can be delivered proactively to your dog at vaccine time or following the administration of the Rabies Vaccine.
Often in my dog behavior work, if we have seen a change in the dog’s behavior, including aggression, new fears, anxiety, seizures, or other changes, we may consider administering a Lyssin protocol to attempt a reset. In many cases we have made these attempted reset a year or more beyond the last vaccine delivery, and seen excellent results in the dog’s well-being.
